Grading Policy:
Music is a tough subject to grade! Students are graded equally by their effort and acquisition of the musical objective.
Kindergarten Grades: Kinders in music receive a Skill and a Conduct grade.
1=Student is unable to exhibit skill even with direct guidance. Additional instruction is needed.
2=Student exhibits skill with minimal guidance. Reinforcement needed.
3=Student exhibits skills independently and consistently.
4=Student understanding goes beyond grade level expectation.
1st – 5th Music Grades: Children will receive an E, S, N, or U.
E= Achievement is EXCELLENT (90% or higher average)
· Student shows extra effort/work in music.
· Student shows mastery exceeding grade level expectations
· Student makes accomplishments beyond expectation for grade level
· Student has exceptional grades on written work in Music
S= Achievement is SATISFACTORY (80%-89% average)
· Student shows adequate effort in music
· Student satisfies 70% or more on TEKS and North East ISD Standards
· Student makes accomplishments appropriate for grade level
· Student has average grades on written work in Music
N= Achievement NEEDS IMPROVEMENT (70%-79% average)
· Student shows little or no effort in music
· Student satisfies less than 70% of the TEKS and North East ISD standards
· Student makes accomplishments below expectations for grade level
· Student has below average grades on written work in Music
U= Achievement is UNACCEPTABLE (69% or lower average)
· Student has not come to music class, when at school
· Student has failed to complete or turn in assigned work
(If your child is currently showing a U for music class, please come speak with me. I will make it very easy for the children to raise their grades: they just have to show up to class and do the work.)
